Balat / Fatih We examine how a balcony has changed over the years: its purpose, size, and definition. The current definition of a balcony, although more accurately described as having a sloping roof, refers to a structure used like a greenhouse. Based on the abundance of trees and potted plants, we can say that the balcony is used for commercial purposes. (current condition of the balcony) (model of the balcony) If we examine it more closely, we see that this was originally an open terrace balcony, but it was later enclosed. With this enclosure, the homeowner gained extra storage space for their plants and could also use their existing balcony more freely. The balcony was initially used for hobby plant cultivation, but over the years, both the existing plants grew and new plant spec...
Common-ucation of Balconies
Balcony is not merely a structured open area, but also a communication tool between neighborhoods and even buildings. An articulated climber plant shows that term of "Balcony" is also a common consciousness between people being a representation of ideas, beliefs and patterns. A climber plant is turned out to be a created bond between people , implying a organic collectivity. Reminding me of communication between spaces , potents in circulations and overall links in apart spaces. Demirkan Demir
LIMINAL BEYOND HUMAN
By

Spaces do not belong solely to humans. do not exist solely for human purposes. yet, a dignified life is the right of all. and design is what makes this possible. As like Aronis says; many people use their porches, windows, balconies to get a sense of others, to be part of a larger scene, to observe social life, and reflect on their own or to enjoy a place that implies connectivity without clear obligation to connect. In this project, I embrace these qualities of the balcony not merely as a physical extension of the dwelling, but as a liminal space that mediates between the private and the collective, enabling diverse forms of coexistence, observation, and interaction among human and non-human inhabitants alike. The project begins with a condition of liminality already embedded within its site. Positioned between contrasting urban realities, the block occupies a threshold rather than a singular identity. One edge faces a busy commercial street and a metr...

Stay Balcony Forever Within the scope of the project, efforts have been made to bring balconies, which are gradually decreasing in number and are being closed off or incorporated into the house or used as storage space, back into our lives and to make them actively used dynamism in the facade. The five actual apartment buildings at the edge of an island plot with unused balcony potential were considered without altering their building registration area. current situation of corner and cemetery facade and The floor plans have been redesigned to allow users to live a life integrated with balconies. Some plans that can be configured according to balcony usage Configurable shading elements were designed for the facades, which change according to the direction the balcony faces. This allows the users themselves to create dynamism in the facade. Thanks for reading 😉Smile, you can still breathing
Living In-Between

In my view, balconies are systems that allow the protected domestic life inside our homes to connect with the outside. They are not merely extensions opening to the outside, but shared living spaces where daily life, nature, wind, rain, sun insects, birds, and the living and non-living mingle. In this project, I designed the balcony not as a monotonous architectural element built simply “because ithas to be,” but as a system capable of responding to the different needs, habits, and lifestyles of different people. Here, the balcony ceases to be a passive element standing at the boundary of the house and becomes an active threshold that collects water, uses sunlight, grows plants, provides space for living beings, and carries daily life outside. A TALE OF TWO VOIDS
By

A Tale of Two Voids I am exploring the " balcony " not merely as an architectural ornament, but as a crucial interface between the private ego and the urban chaos. In a city where boundaries are increasingly thinned into sterile facades, the balcony remains the last frontier of spontaneity. My study focuses on the " liminality " of this space—the uncanny zone that is neither fully inside nor completely outside. This drawing captures a profound socio-economic contrast within the urban fabric. On one side, we see a bare, skeletal void as intended by the architect; on the other, a space reclaimed and " hacked " by its inhabitants through improvised veils. This " textile architecture " acts as a soft border, filtering the urban gaze and creating a personalized micro-climate.
